In 2012, claims about an “extraterrestrial mummy” gained attention following the analysis of a small, mummified skeleton found in the Atacama Desert in Chile. This mummy, nicknamed “Ata,” had unusual features such as an elongated skull and a diminutive size, leading some to speculate about its extraterrestrial origin. Steven Greer, a proponent of UFO and extraterrestrial research, conducted imaging studies on Ata, further fueling the debate about its origins.
However, scientific analysis later provided a more grounded explanation for Ata’s peculiar appearance. A study published in 2018 in the journal Genome Research concluded that Ata was indeed a human fetus, likely around 15 weeks old, with genetic mutations that may have contributed to her unusual skeletal features. The research indicated that her elongated skull could have been caused by natural factors such as vaginal delivery or environmental pressures after burial.
Despite these findings, the debate surrounding Ata continued, with some individuals maintaining the belief that she was of extraterrestrial origin.
