A man in China made a startling discovery when visiting a doctor to seek treatment for a swollen stomach.
The unnamed 66-year-old was told that the swelling was due to an ovarian cyst, leading to the revelation that he wasn’t actually a man at all. After undergoing a series of tests it was revealed that he was suffering from two rare genetic disorders that had remained undiagnosed for most of his life. Turner Syndrome affects around 1 in 2,000 baby girls while congenital adrenal hyperplasia is known to increase male hormones.
“Were it not due to the huge ovarian cyst, his intriguing medical condition might never have been exposed,” wrote his doctors in a report which also mentioned that he intended to continue living as a man despite the discovery. He will receive treatment for the condition along with a testosterone replacement to maintain his current state and appearance.
