Crystals are gaining popularity again not for decorative purposes but healing properties. If you’re in social media, scrolling down your Facebook and Instagram feed can show you the hashtag healing crystals everywhere. From large stones to pendants and rings, the radiant look of beautiful rocks that are believed to cure mental and physiological problems will certainly peak your curiosity . But do they actually work? Can crystals really heal?
Ancient Egyptians once believed that crystals have the power to restore health. During their time, they even buried their deceased family members with them. Today, people seem to welcome the idea of possible healing abilities. New age alternative medicine has incorporated crystals to their natural treatment options.
While some suggest that crystal healing started to the time of ancient Sumerians, Mesopotamians, and Egyptians, the modern philosophy of crystal healing originated from traditional Asian concepts specifically the Chinese qi or life energy and Buddhist idea of chakras.
With people flocking to local and online shops, the notion of crystal healing is expanding today. Some purchase crystals to cure their ailments, while others try use them to restore mental health and balance. Others wish to ward off negative energy and to feel inner peace. Whatever the reason, people are unexplainably drawn to the strange supernatural power of crystals.

A scientist from IBM, Marcel Vogel, recently examined crystals specifically Quartz under a microscope. He believes that the solid crystals seemed to take the shape of whatever he was thinking at that particular moment. Vogel claimed that the constant assembling and disassembling of bonds between solid molecules cause them to vibrate. He stated that crystal vibrations help mobilize the mental energy within it.
Albert Einstein once said that everything in life is vibration and that includes thoughts and energy levels within your body. Logically, we can say that good level of vibrations in your body creates optimum health. Therefore, it is safe to say that the level of energy in the body corresponds to the specific vibrations of crystals, and this is the main reason crystals can heal according to many natural healers.
However, science and medicine don’t believe this notion. Although crystals can help people mentally and physiologically, the reason behind it isn’t about vibrations or energy level at all.
A study was presented in 2001 at the European Congress of Psychology in Rome. Eighty people were asked to meditate for five minutes while holding genuine and fake crystals. Similar results were gathered from people who hold the fake and real crystals.
The people in the experiment claimed that they’d felt tingling, vibrations and heat while holding the crystals after we told them in advance that this is what might happen. Professor Christopher French of Psychology at Goldsmiths, University of London explained that the outcome of the experiment was brought by the power of suggestion and not the power of crystals.
The study implicated the power of placebo effect. If people thought that a particular treatment would make them feel better, people would definitely claim that they felt better after the treatment.
To answer the question if Crystals can really heal, it may be fair to say in some cases. Although no scientific evidence supports the claims of crystal healing, many personal accounts around the world, suggest Crystals can improve the mood and make you feel better.
For scientists, crystals can create a placebo effect, which is medically acceptable in the field of health and medicine. To enthusiasts and believers of healing, crystals offer great alternative healing options for mental and physiological problems. Although it is not clear why crystals may have healing effects unlike other ordinary stones or rocks. Perhaps this is something for science to discover in the future. Let us just wait.
