Trump proved to be even more astute than we imagined. In 2020, he seemingly engaged in a farcical battle for the election. However, it appears he intentionally conceded to Biden, as no wise person would want to be president in a year supposedly cursed by an ancient shaman’s hex.
— The president elected this year will leave his post for a reason that is not the most cheerful. Namely, because of death.
We’re merely jesting and feigning superstition. We don’t subscribe to such nonsense. Yet, whether one believes it or not, the “Curse of the Presidents” has manifested seven times to date. Will it recur an eighth time? The forthcoming four years shall reveal the answer.
America’s formation as a state was not marked by peaceful means. Among other actions, there was a notable propensity for acquiring land from Native Americans.
In an instance reflective of this trend, the Miami Indian tribe (indeed, that is their name) was subjected to deceit.
In 1811, through an inequitable agreement, the Americans acquired more than 4600 square niles of land in the region that is now the state of Indiana.
We will not delve into the subsequent events, but it is known that the Indians chose to defend their land, leading to a war during which the chief Tecumseh was killed in 1813. As a chief and shaman, Tecumseh spoke the following words before his death:
– Harrison will die. And after him, every Great Leader chosen after 20 years will die.
Indeed, dictaphones did not exist at that time, but it is said that the phrase was somewhat like this. Here’s the subsequent event.
The Harrison referred to in the curse was the governor of Indiana at the time, held accountable for the shaman’s death.
Twenty-seven years later, Harrison was indeed elected as the President of the United States, or “Principal Chief” as Tecumseh would have termed it, in the year 1840.
Precisely one month after his election, Harrison succumbed to pneumonia. The shaman’s curse seemed to manifest. According to the curse, every US president elected in a year ending in zero, starting from 1840, would die in office. This pattern would repeat every 20 years.
In total, there are ten “cursed” years, including 2020.
Indeed, the curse was realized in the year 1840. Following that, a pattern emerged where several U.S. presidents elected in years divisible by 20 died in office, including Abraham Lincoln in 1860, James A. Garfield in 1880, William McKinley in 1900, Warren G. Harding in 1920, Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1940, and John F. Kennedy in 1960.
In 1860, Abraham Lincoln was elected and later shot to death. In 1880, James A. Garfield was elected and also fell victim to an assassin’s bullet just a year after taking office. The subsequent “dangerous” year of 1900 witnessed the election of William McKinley as president, who, tragically, was shot a year after his election.
The subsequent events are even more intriguing. In 1920, Warren Harding was elected president, but he was not fated to complete his term. He passed away under mysterious circumstances, and debates persist over whether his death was due to foul play or a heart attack. However, it is an established fact that his departure was not voluntary.
In 1940, Roosevelt was elected president. It appeared to many that the supposed curse had been broken as Roosevelt completed his first term successfully. He was then re-elected for a second and a third term, serving both without incident. However, during his fourth term, Roosevelt passed away suddenly at its onset. Consequently, the alleged curse seemed to manifest after all—the “Great Leader” died in office rather than in retirement.
Indeed, the curse attributed to the Indian chief seemed to manifest seven times consecutively. What followed was Ronald Reagan’s presidency beginning in 1980, which initially proceeded without incident. However, in the second year, 1981, Reagan was the target of an assassination attempt. The injury he sustained was severe; such a wound in the 19th century would have been fatal. Yet, with the advancements in medical care by the late 20th century, Reagan was saved from near death. It’s almost as if he had a fleeting encounter with Chief Tecumseh himself.
The curse appeared to persist, albeit not to its fullest extent, as the subsequent president also experienced a significant threat.
In 2000, George W. Bush decided to test his fate. This man was not known for his intelligence or quick wits, which makes his courage puzzling. During a visit to Georgia, Bush survived an assassination attempt when a grenade, with its pin removed, was thrown at his feet. Miraculously, the grenade did not explode. Perhaps Chief Tecumseh, skilled in life, was unfamiliar with grenades?
This leads to the current situation. Biden, elected in 2020, is the next president subject to the curse, which is due to manifest in a few months (or another four years if he is re-elected).
We do not wish harm on anyone, but the pattern is indeed fascinating.
