The internet is quietly disappearing, and no one seems to notice 1

The internet is gradually vanishing, with numerous web pages from the previous decade becoming inaccessible. Older content is particularly vulnerable, vanishing at a quicker rate than newer pages. The prevalence of broken links is affecting news and government sites, complicating the search for information and diminishing online trust.

This issue underscores the delicate nature of digital content and the urgent need for enhanced preservation methods.

Approximately 25% of all web pages that existed from 2013 to 2023 are now inaccessible. This issue is more acute for older content; for instance, 38% of the pages from 2013 are inaccessible in 2024, compared to 8% in 2023. This indicates that 30% of the information from 2013 was lost over the past year.

The problem of broken links is also escalating. Currently, 23% of articles on news websites have at least one broken link, which means only 77% of the news links remain accessible. Government websites, particularly those of municipal authorities, are similarly affected by a high incidence of broken links.

The magnitude of this issue is vast and continues to worsen daily. Wikipedia is not immune to this challenge; a significant 54% of English Wikipedia pages contain at least one dead link, rendering many cited sources unavailable.

When the number of broken links exceeds the active ones, it highlights the vulnerability of online information and underscores the critical importance of diligent archiving.

Digital decay on social media platforms is a growing concern. A study in the spring of 2023 monitored nearly 5 million tweets over three months, finding that 20% vanished by the end of this period. Within one hour of posting, 1% of tweets were deleted, 3% disappeared within a day, and 10% were gone within a week.

A staggering 49% of references in U.S. Supreme Court decisions from 2013 led to dead links, indicating that nearly half of these decisions lack source references.

Moreover, scientific research is at risk. An analysis of 7 million publications revealed that over 25% of scientific articles are neither archived nor preserved, leading to a significant loss of digital information. This not only hinders access to knowledge but also challenges future research and historical record-keeping.

Compounding the issue, Google has reportedly removed the caching function from its search, potentially leading to the loss of a vast amount of websites and data.

Consider a scenario where a site publishes incorrect information and later corrects it. Without the ability to view cached versions, it becomes impossible to track changes over time. This logic applies universally: any data could potentially be altered, shifted, or simply vanish without the possibility of retrospective examination.

Since December 2023, Google’s innovations have transferred the responsibility for archiving and storing internet information to the Web Archive. This archive may currently alleviate some issues, but it is starting to encounter similar challenges.

Another issue leading to the disappearance of the internet is “weak content,” more aptly described as “empty” content. This type of content offers little to no value to site visitors, failing to assist users in finding the information they seek or completing their tasks. It consists mainly of advertisements and affiliate links, which exist solely to generate revenue through clicks.

The internet’s most valuable materials are being overwhelmed by a deluge of low-quality information. For every informative article, there are ten pages filled with affiliate links designed to prompt purchases.

Small websites are being acquired rapidly by larger entities, leading to concerns that these sites and their unique content may vanish. Similarly, bloggers’ channels are being purchased, and their original content is often supplanted by less valuable material filled with affiliate links.

Additionally, there is a growing issue with the creation of insubstantial content by AI. These systems compile information from various sources but fail to contribute any originality, resulting in a cluttered information space with what could be described as ‘information gum.’

The realm of authentic content is diminishing, while the domain of insubstantial, low-quality content is flourishing.

One legally recognized method for eliminating undesirable content is the official censorship of websites. For instance, YouTube, under the guise of fighting purported misinformation regarding a so-called pandemic, military conflicts, and other sensitive issues, formally removes a substantial volume of material.

The Internet is often said to be “quietly disappearing,” and the simple reason is that it is being quietly eradicated.

Why is the Internet being killed?

The primary objective appears to be combating dissent. Materials that hinder globalists from deceiving people and covertly perpetuating their genocidal acts while constructing a New World Order based on slavery are being eliminated.

The secondary objective is to deceive humanity, stripping people of knowledge and memory.

In the future, it’s possible that understanding the multiplication table may become a privilege reserved for a select few. The majority might simply follow commands from the television without question, leading to the emergence of a class of uneducated subordinates.

It seems that Ray Bradbury’s prediction may soon become a reality – the burning of paper books and the oppression of their owners could commence.
