Infamous Snowden warns , that governments are using to create a coronavirus ” oppression.”
The future may be unpredictable, but global pandemics cannot. All governments on the planet have been repeatedly warned that at some point a viral pandemic will sweep the world. And yet they could not prepare for the new coronavirus.
“Every scientist, every researcher who watched the spread of the coronavirus, knew that a pandemic would happen,” said the famous whistleblower Edward Snowden in an exclusive interview with VICE co-founder Shane Smith. “However, the system failed us.”
There is nothing more predictable than a public health crisis, Snowden explains. And every academician, every researcher knew that it was a pandemic. Including special services. The Chinese government tried to send Western journalists out of the country precisely at that moment, when there was a demand for reliable information about the development of the epidemic, the whistleblower recalls.
“[Coronavirus] seems to have affected civil liberties and the right to privacy?” – Shane Smith asked Snowden. To which Edward answered the following:
“As authoritarianism spreads, a state of emergency is introduced, we do not just sacrifice our rights. We also sacrifice the opportunity to stop the slide into a less liberal and less free world. Do you really believe that when the first wave, the second wave, the sixteenth wave of the coronavirus, pass, the won positions will not be saved? What interaction algorithms will not be saved? No matter how they are used, what is being built today is a system of oppression.”
