One eagle-eyed Google Street View user recently came across a very unusual object in the clouds over Florida.
The search giant’s online mapping service, which features panoramic views of locations across the world, is no stranger to abnormalities and this latest example is no exception.
Spotted over Big Cypress National Preserve in southern Florida, the peculiar object looks, at first glance, like a large vessel with several rows of windows partially obscured by the clouds.
The sighting proved sufficiently intriguing to warrant a mention on numerous websites, with Internet users speculating over what type of aircraft Google’s Street View car had managed to photograph.
As it turns out however, the mystery has a rather conventional explanation.
Google Street View is made up of numerous separate shots stitched together, meaning that sometimes passing objects such as cars, people and birds can be cut off between images.
In this case, the object is likely to be little more than a butterfly that happened to be flying past at the time. If you look close enough, it is even possible to see one of its antennae.
Well, that’s a relief. https://t.co/Kes39gPz0d
