What does the Bible say about 666? The Bible mentions 666 as “the number of the beast“: Here is wisdom. Whoever has the mind, consider the number of the beast, for it is a human number; its number is six hundred sixty six. (Revelation 13:18)
Modern translation: It takes wisdom. Everyone who has a mind can understand the meaning of the number of the beast, for it corresponds to the human number. The number is six hundred sixty six (666).
Revelation is written in coded language. Oddly enough, but the key to the code was lost very early, because even such a major theologian as Irenaeus of Lyons, who lived in the second century, did not know what was behind this symbolic number.
New Testament
Revelation of St. John the Theologian
CHAPTER 13.
1 And I stood on the sand of the sea, and saw a beast coming out of the sea with seven heads and ten horns: on its horns were ten diadem, and on its heads were blasphemous names.
2 The beast that I saw was like a leopard; his feet are like that of a bear, and his mouth is like that of a lion; and the dragon gave him his strength and his throne and great power.
3 And I saw that one of his heads was mortally wounded, but this mortal wound was healed. And the whole earth marveled, watching the beast, and they bowed to the dragon, who gave power to the beast, 4and bowed to the beast, saying: Who is like this beast? and who can fight him?
5 And a mouth was given to him, speaking proudly and blasphemously, and authority was given to him to act forty-two months.
6And he opened his mouth for blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his dwelling place, and those who live in heaven.
7 And it was given to him to wage war with the saints and defeat them; and power was given to him over every tribe and people, and language and tribe.
8 And all who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
9 He that has an ear, let him hear.
10 He who leads captivity, he himself will go into captivity; he who kills with the sword, he himself must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and faith of the saints.
11 And I saw another beast coming out of the earth; he had two horns like a lamb, and spoke like a dragon.
12 He acts before him with all the power of the first beast and makes the whole earth and those who live on it worship the first beast, whose mortal wound has been healed; 13 And he does great signs, so that fire also brings down from heaven to earth before men.
14 And the miracles that he was given to do before the beast, he seduces those who live on the earth, telling those who live on the earth to make the image of the beast that has a wound from the sword and lives.
15 And it was given to him to put the spirit into the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast would both speak and act so that we kill everyone who would not worship the image of the beast.
16 And he will do that for all, small and great, rich and poor, free and slaves, a mark will be laid on their right hand or on their forehead, 17 and that no one will be able to buy or sell, except for the one who has it the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of its name.
18 Here is wisdom. Whoever has a mind, consider the number of the beast, for it is a human number; its number is six hundred sixty six.
The Apocalypse of St. John the Evangelist contains, not a description of specific events, but rather some signs that can help to learn about the approaching end of the world.
People think that because of the events unfolding now around the world, that the Apocalypse can really come. This is not only the coronavirus epidemic, from which people feel like they are on the edge of the abyss.
The volcanic eruptions in New Zealand, the invasion of locusts in East Africa and the devouring forest fires that devastated Australia and South America – all this leads to the fact that some people believe that the End of Time is imminent.
